ST. CATHARINES — Brian Eckhardt has signed on for a second term as the president of the board of directors for Family and Children’s Services Niagara.

The Fonthill native and retired inspector with the Niagara Regional Police Services was elected to continue his role with the child welfare agency during FACS’ 119th annual general meeting Wednesday night. Officers of the board were also elected that evening.

Eckhardt has been on the FACS board since 2009, previously chairing the audit and finance committee, serving on the strategic plan steering committee, and serving as a secretary, treasurer, and vice president.

“A great deal has been accomplished this year,” Eckhardt said. “And there is more work and more challenges ahead. I am pleased to be working with a strong board and a committed staff to lead us through these changing and challenging times.”

During its annual general meeting, held at St. John the Theologian Ukrainian Catholic Church, FACS Niagara released service statistics for 2016/17, awarded 41 youth bursaries valued at nearly $90,000, and recognized staff for a successful transition to the ministry’s province-wide Child Protection Information Network.
